Advanced Site Properties

With BuildSitesNow it's easy to host your site under your own domain name, add search engine meta-tags, password protect your whole site, display your own logo and copyright (business designs only). These advanced site-related functions are available under the differentsections of Site Properties panel. In Site Properties you may also monitor the status of your account - applied site upgrades, storage used, expiration date for your upgrades.

 

To open Site Properties enter Admin view, roll over the Control Panel  icon on top right and choose Site Properties.

 

Site Properties panel has several sections with administration options. Click Show Options to see the editing options available in a specific section.

 

My Account

This section displays all information about the status of your account - storage used, applied upgrades, activation date, etc.

 

The Storage bar will let you monitor the storage space used by your account.

 

When the assets you have on your website (files, images, etc) exceed the storage limit for your account - the storage bar will become red. You will also be sent several email notifications asking you to remove the files in excess of the storage. If no action is taken to restore your account used space within the limits - the files in excess will be automatically removed from your account. To upgrade your account storage please follow the Upgrade link to the right of the storage bar.

 

Under Account Type you may see the type of your account - free or paid. If your account type is paid, you will see listed below all upgrades (business or storage ones) applied to your account. The expiration date for your account is the expiration date of the last upgrade you have applied. To Renew your upgrade subscription click the Renew link to the right of the account expiration date.

 

The Status line in My Account section shows the date when your account has been activated. To remove your account click the Cancel Account link to the right. An e-mail with instructions on how to cancel your account will be sent to the email address associated with your account. Please note that any cancellation is final, and cancelled accounts may not be restored.

 

Access Control

The Access Control section allows you to protect all pages from your site by password or email address authorization.

 


 

  • If you wish to restrict access to your site only to individuals who have been given a certain password, fill in the desired password in the Password field. Leave the Allow only for members of drop-down set to [No restriction]
  • You can also make the site accessible to members of a mailing list. From Allow only for members of drop-down select a mailing list already added to your site.

  • You can also restrict access to your site by a combination of password and mailing list membership.
     

Access protection takes effect immediately after updating, no need to publish. Depending on whether you have chosen to  pass-protect your site or restrict the access to the members of a mailing list, users will be asked to fill in a site password or an email address when they access your site.

 

Special Features

In section Special Features are located the options to set your own domain for your site, enter all search-engine related information about your site, define the delimiter between the site title and page titles, and the option to set news per page (for designs with an option for news).

My Domain

This option allows you to display your site under your own domain name. Please refer to the Domain Name Setup tutorial for detailed instructions.
 

Site Keywords and Site Description

The keywords and site description typed in these fields will be added as meta tags on all pages of your site in order to facilitate proper indexing by the search engines.

You can file the keywords separated with a space so that they will form a maximum number of meaningful combinations. It is also recommended to use whole keyword phrases rather than single words.  You can use different keyword popularity tools to arrive at the most appropriate keyword phrases related to your site.  The site description can be 30-40 words and should also include the most important keyword phrases.

 

Please note that adding search keywords and description will not guarantee your site will come up when you search for a keyword you have listed. Good search engine visibility can be achieved with high density of keywords in the main content of your site, as well as relevant links to it from other popular sites in the same sphere.

 

News per page

If you have selected a design featuring News, this option will allow you to define the number of news items to appear on one page.

 

Page title delimiter

In the page title delimiter filed you can change the character used for separating the Site Title from the Page title in the Browser window title.  You can set the title delimiter to #, -, : etc.
